The role of Imam Askari in the establishment of Khum,s culture is presented in this article based on the historical evidence and narrations left by the Imam. According to the available narrations, the fields in which Imam al-'Askari played a role regarding the religious duty of khums are as follows: emphasis on the philosophy of khums obligation; emphasis on the comprehensiveness of the scope of khums (comprehensiveness of the obligation to pay khums according to income); practical emphasis on khums obligation; practical expression of the use of khums by distributing it among the needy of Banu Hāshim; and dealing with an attorney network as a tool and the agents of the administration of Shiites’ affairs by the Imam Given the unprecedented and undocumented charge of taking khums from sources other than war spoils, including earnings of business, and the lack of addressing this issue according to the efforts of the Shiite Imams based on the historical analysis of khums periods, addressing these developments from the perspective of the Imamate of Imam al-'Askari is a new achievement that is not found in previous research; this discussion is also one of the innovations of this article, obtained through historical and ḥadīth analyses.
