Those who believe in negative theology argue that there is no congruity between God and the creatures and our understanding can grasp only what He may not be rather than what He may be. In contrast, those who believe in positive theology (cataphatic theology) also address what the divine is believed to be. Saʽid Qomi believes that negative theology (i.e., the negation of positive theology and any divine attributes) is based on Shi'a principles. However, his claimed manifestation (zohur: implication of word (lafz) about the intended meaning) is seemingly based on primitive (badvi; uncertain) manifestation of some tradition narratives (rivāyāt) that can be rejected through contemplation about the connected and disconnected evidence. A detailed analysis shows that the narratives only negate the possibility of attributing certain (tafsili), essential (ektenahi), and full (ehati) knowledge to God, not positive uncertain (ijmali) knowledge. Meanwhile, narratives manifesting negation of divine attributes only deny redundant and created attributes, not any attribute.
